IS IT COMPULSORY TO HAVE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS IN A BLOCK OF FLATS?

There are a number of issues to consider in order for everything to run smoothly in a Community of Neighbours. One of the most important criteria is safety and everything that falls into this category, such as fire extinguishers. Therefore, it is normal to wonder if it is compulsory to have fire extinguishers in a community of neighbours. To answer this question, we must refer to the Basic Building Regulations. This was approved by Royal Decree 2177 of 4 October 1996.

WHAT DOES THE ROYAL DECREE 2177 SAY ABOUT WHETHER IT IS COMPULSORY TO HAVE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS IN THE RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATIONS?

According to the regulation, all buildings constructed after that year must have fire extinguishers. Furthermore, it is also compulsory to have fire extinguishers in the Community of Owners if we are talking about a building that has been refurbished after that date. But what about buildings built before 1996? As long as they have not undergone a major modification, such as a refurbishment or the installation of a lift, they are not obliged to have extinguishers. Regardless of the obligation or non-obligation, AF Administradores recommends having fire extinguishers, as they could save lives in the event of a fire. The cost of fire extinguishers is not too high, nor does it cost much to maintain them.
